Tab groups that
sort themselves.

Group every loose tab by site in one click, or write a rule once and let each page file itself as it opens. The tabs you arranged by hand stay exactly where you put them.

Two ways

Once by hand, or every time by rule

Group by site or by kind, now

From Open tabs, group every loose tab by its site, or by what kind of page it is. Collapse or expand every group at once, or take them all apart again. Run it twice and nothing changes: tabs already in a group stay in it.

Rules that act as a tab opens

github.com, !gist.github.com grouped as Code puts GitHub, but not gists, into Code the moment it opens. Match sites, leave some out with !, or match the page title with title:.

What it never does

Your arrangement wins

A rule never moves a tab you grouped yourself, never touches a pinned tab, and never reshuffles what is already open unless you ask. It re-reads a tab before acting, so two pages loading at once cannot make two groups of the same name.

Then what

A group can wait for you

Grouping is where most tab-group extensions stop. In Latr a group has a menu of its own: Remind me closes it and brings it back, as a group, at the time you pick; Keep in a folder files every page in your library; and a whole window of groups can be saved and restored as it was.

Questions

Grouping tabs automatically, asked directly

Can tabs be grouped automatically as I open them?

Yes. A rule names a site, or a set of sites, and a group; every new tab that matches is filed into that group as it loads. Write one for github.com into Code, one for your docs sites, one for social media - and the tab strip keeps itself sorted.

Does automatic tab grouping work in Firefox and Edge?

Yes. Edge and Chrome share the same tab groups, and Firefox has had tab groups since 2025. Grouping by site, grouping rules and restoring saved groups work in all three.

How do I group tabs by domain automatically?

Two ways. Once: open Latr’s Open tabs and choose Group by site, and every loose tab joins a group named after its site. Every time: in Settings → Organising → Group tabs automatically, write a rule - github.com grouped as Code - and each matching page joins that group the moment it opens.

What can a rule match?

Sites, separated by commas: github.com also matches gist.github.com. Start a term with ! to leave it out (github.com, !gist.github.com), or with title: to match words in the page title. While you type, the rule shows how many of your open tabs it matches, so you can see what it will do before it does anything.

Will it move tabs I already arranged?

No. A tab you put in a group yourself stays there, a pinned tab is never touched, and a rule acts only when a page opens or changes address - not on everything already open. To apply a rule to the tabs you already have, press Group open tabs beside it.

How many rules are free?

Five. A licence lifts that and lets a set of rules switch on by weekday and time - work rules on weekdays, say.

Can I undo something a rule did?

Yes. Anything Latr does on its own - a rule grouping a tab, a duplicate closed - appears above the Open tabs list for half an hour with Ungroup or Open again beside it.

Close the tab.
It will come back.

Free, no account, and nothing leaves your device. About ten seconds to install, and one keystroke to use.

Also on Brave, Vivaldi, Arc and Opera - straight from the Chrome Web Store listing.
