Cookie policy
This website sets no cookies and shows no advertising. It counts page views with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookie and no identifier — which is why you were not shown a consent banner.
Why there is no banner
Consent banners exist because sites store things on your device that are not necessary for the site to work — usually analytics and advertising identifiers. This site stores none of those, so there is nothing to ask you about. A banner here would be theatre.
How page views are counted
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, and it is worth being specific about what that does and does not do. It sets no cookie, stores no identifier on your device, and does not follow you to any other site. It cannot, because there is nothing persistent for it to follow you with.
What we see is aggregate and anonymous: how many people viewed a page, roughly where in the world they were, which browser they used, and which site linked them here. We cannot see who you are, cannot single you out, and could not build a profile of you if we wanted to — the data simply does not contain one.
We use it to answer one question: which pages people actually read, so the ones that matter get written better. If your browser blocks the script, the site works exactly the same and we would rather you were comfortable than counted.
The one thing that is stored
When you use the light/dark toggle, your choice is saved in your browser’s
localStorage under the key latr-theme. This is
not a cookie: it is never transmitted with a request, so no server —
including this one — ever receives it. It exists so the site does not flash the wrong
theme at you on the next page load.
It contains the single word light or dark. Nothing else.
Clearing your browser’s site data removes it, and the site falls back to matching
your operating system.
What is not here
- No analytics, first-party or third-party
- No advertising or remarketing tags
- No embedded fonts from a font CDN
- No embedded video players
- No social media widgets or share buttons that phone home
- No session cookies, because there are no sessions and no accounts
Server logs
The site is served as static files by a hosting provider, which — like every web host — processes connection information such as IP addresses in order to deliver the page and to defend against abuse. We do not add analytics on top of that, do not build profiles from it, and have no way to connect it to any reminder you have created, because reminders never reach the network.
The extension
The Latr extension itself uses no cookies at all. It stores your reminders in the browser’s extension storage, which is local to your machine, and the free version makes no network requests. See the privacy policy for the full picture.
If this ever changes
If analytics are ever added, this page and the privacy policy change in the same release, and a proper consent mechanism arrives with them. We would rather not, and the store dashboard already reports installs and active users without touching anyone on this site.
